Having grown up in the beautiful, iconic coastal town of Angourie on Australia's East Coast, I spent the majority of my childhood playing in the ocean whether it be surfing (all types of ocean craft), swimming or snorkelling. If you couldn't find me in the ocean I was most likely running wild in my back yard of the Yuraygir National Park making cubby houses, this is me, this is the core of my essence, this wild, adventure loving, free spirit. I find my escape in the smell, taste and movement of the ocean, it transports me to a place of peace and solitude like no other medium can.
After my schooling I moved to the Gold Coast to study Sports Management. This was my first big life step out of my comfort zone and into the big wide world, leaving behind my humble little playground to forge a career within the one thing I knew better than anything, surfing. I knew as long as I had passion in my heart I would always be successful, successful to me is not the pursuit of something for monetary value but for happiness and satisfaction on a deeper level.
Not long after my move I began working for Billabong in their Marketing team working on various events including the Girls Get Out There Tour and Design for Humanity... it was right down my alley to say the least. I was also beginning to adjust to surfing with a million others who also called Snapper Rocks their local and making the drive to my little paradise home of Angourie on the weekends. From here I went on to manage the Billabong Girls Team of athletes; travelling all over the world to surf contests and shoots.
The next step of my journey would see me travel to outback Australia to explore a completely different world. Here I discovered so much about myself as I think anyone does when you are removed from your creature comforts; mine being the ocean and my family. I discovered a inner strength, resilience and adaptability within me that I didn't know existed.
My heart then guided me to Essence of Living on the Gold Coast where I completed an intensive Pilates Matwork Certification under the guidance of angels Michelle Merrifield and Cara Gillespie. I was hooked straight away, I knew that at that time I was coming back to me, I was realigning my work with my passions. It wasn't long after this that I left the mining industry and relocate to Melbourne, to where I now call home!
Life is about moving out of your comfort zones, making them your new comfort zone and then changing again, it is the process of evolving as a human being. Living life teaching Pilates is a dream, helping people to transform their lives is truly a unique experience to find in a career.
Having just returned from Bali where I completed The Collective 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training at Desa Seni; a collective approach by bringing together different yoga styles such as Hatha, Vinyasa Flow, Kundalini, Ashtanga, Anusara & dance.
I find similarities between the flow and motion of the ocean to the flow I find on my mat. Yoga and Pilates provides me with the same release and escape from modern living as surfing has always done for me and so for that I am thankful to find this from another outlet.
